Monday - Pre-Conference Workshops

Pre-Conference Workshop Registration Opens

Workshops allow you and your team to take a deep-dive into one of Watermark’s core ministries, get personal training from ministry leaders, and connect with leaders from other churches who are passionate about the same area of ministry you are!

Equipping

The people of any local church are at different places in their faith journey. How do we challenge individuals to take the next step in their walk with Christ? Come learn how Watermark seeks to equip our members to be and make disciples for Christ, whether they are beginning their relationship with Christ, maturing in their faith, or desiring to serve in vocational ministry. Watermark’s Equipping Team will discuss Bible studies for men and women that transform lives; daily devotional and apologetic strategies; faithful stewardship of God’s resources; and other opportunities to equip your church with a deeper understanding of God and His Word.

Community/ Connecting

For many churches, small groups are the entry point where people first experience biblical community, practice the “one anothers” of Scripture, and begin the process of spiritual transformation. In this workshop, we’ll discuss our guiding principles for community; how we assimilate and form groups; strategies for training leaders; and how we ensure that members are shepherding one another.

Young Adults (The Porch)

Young adults are the largest and most influential demographic in America, and the church must reach them. The Porch, Watermark’s ministry to young adults in their 20s and 30s, now engages with 3,500+ young adults on our campuses every week, with many more joining us through partner churches and online streams. Come hear how God is working powerfully in and through these young adults. We’ll share our ministry vision, strategy, and methods; discuss principles for reaching young adults and challenging them to live out their purpose in Christ; and lay out practical approaches to addressing ministry challenges. Let us help you reach this generation for Christ.

Kids

Children’s ministry is a strategic opportunity to build a foundation of faith in the church’s next generation. It can be a catalyst for life-change in parents and volunteers as well. Come hear how we influence the lives of kids and parents; equip them for their mission of being and making disciples; recruit, develop, and empower volunteer leaders; and keep our focus on teaching about the character and nature of God and the good news of the gospel. The Watermark Kids team will discuss writing/evaluating gospel-centered children’s curriculum; recruitment and training of leaders; strategies for engaging and equipping parents; and why we never do “childcare.” You’ll also get a glimpse of a typical large-group gathering in action.

Students

It’s tough to be a teenager in 2019. Watermark Student Ministries is on a mission to become a group where every 6 - 12th grader in our community can be known and accepted, taught about Jesus, and challenged to grow. At the Student Ministries Workshop, you will have time to get to know others who are “in the trenches” of student ministry while learning about the “ins and outs” of our approach to making disciples.

Marriage (Merge, Foundation Groups, re|engage)

For the last 17 years, Watermark’s Marriage Ministry has been making disciples by preparing nearly weds, establishing newlyweds, and enriching and restoring all marriages. This approach has had a large impact in our church, community, and even other churches. In this workshop, our team will discuss the “why” behind our ministry model, provide details about our unique marriage ministries, and give you practical steps to lead couples in your church more effectively. Whether you want to improve your marriage ministry, overhaul your strategy, or start from the ground up, this workshop will help you make disciples in the context of marriage ministry and the local church.

Recovery (re:generation)

Porn, alcoholism, drugs, pills, codependency, sex addiction, eating disorders, depression, fear, control, abuse, same-sex attraction, anger, obsessive thoughts, and many other struggles are commonplace in the Church. But, they don’t have to be. In Christ, people can be set free. We’d like to introduce you to re:generation, a unique 12-step recovery ministry. Through the gospel, daily abiding, authentic community, confession, repentance, and forgiveness, you’ll see your entire church change and grow. Learn about the radical healing people are receiving in Christ through re:gen, which is free to all churches.

Executive Pastor

Join Greg Crooks, Luke Friesen, and your fellow Executive Pastors to discuss best practices for leading the operations of your church. This workshop will touch on the unique organizational challenges facing senior church leaders, including topics such as finances and budgeting, hiring, organizational best practices, strategic planning and execution, decision-making, real estate, facilities management, and more. Greg and Luke lead all of Watermark’s operations. After spending close to ten years in the corporate world (consulting/finance/private equity), they both were called by God to leave their business careers and use their experience to serve the church.

Worship

We love to help and serve worship leaders and teams, no matter the size, age, tradition, or style of your church. We are looking forward to sharing all that we’ve learned along the way of our 20-year journey. We will discuss why the core values of your church should affect the worship ministry; why it’s vital that your identity is found in Christ and not in your talent; how we pastor/shepherd our worship teams; how to audition and develop more worship leaders and musicians; how to lead a rehearsal; and more. We hope you’ll join us.

Foster Care & Adoption

In every generation, the Church faces unique challenges locally, nationally, or globally that require strategic responses. Watermark’s Life Initiatives focus on the issues of abortion and foster care and the complexities surrounding both. The Bible clearly exhorts Christians to seek justice (Isaiah 1:17). So, we pray and serve across the continuum of care, restoring families and upholding the value of humanity bearing the image of God.

Technical Production

Speaking with other technical artists is a healthy practice. No matter the size of your team or style of worship, we face similar challenges and have similar goals. We will address topics like: developing volunteers, spiritual health of the team, one-team mentality, conflict resolution, creative problem-solving, communicating ideas clearly and concisely, and others. In addition to addressing topics of leadership, we will discuss our philosophical approach to technology in the worship environment. We look forward to inviting you into the discussion.
